The primary goal of Environmental Health is to erect barriers between the public and disease causing agents that exist in the environment. In order to achieve this, Environmental Health Programs are divided into three main program areas.
- Food Hygiene: This program provides for routine Food Service and Facility inspections of institutions such as Schools, Hospitals, Detention Facilities, Day Care Centers, and Assisted Living Facilities.
- Onsite Sewage Treatment and Disposal Systems: Environmental Health staff perform soil profiles and site evaluations for the issuance of Septic System permits. Upon installation, final inspections are conducted to ensure compliance with applicable codes and statutes...
- Limited Use Public Water System Permitting: Environmental Health staff conduct routine inspections of Limited Use Water Systems and monitor water sample laboratory results to facilitate compliance with the Florida Administrative Code.
In addition to the three main Environmental Health Programs, staff are also involved in Public Health Preparedness activities to assist local Emergency Management officials and other Community Partners during any disaster that may affect the public.
