Women's Health

Florida Department of Health in Calhoun County

Calhoun County provides women’s health care to the females in the county.  Services offered include well woman checkups to include physicals, breast exams and pap smears.  Family Planning services such as birth control, prenatal care, preconceptual planning, postpartum follow up and sterilization referrals are also offered as a part of women’s health.

Improved Pregnancy Outcome (IPOP)
IPOP helps pregnant women access prenatal care, apply for Medicaid assistance and WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) nutrition program. The program provides screenings for potential problems and/or risks. IPOP also provides education to promote healthy behaviors during pregnancy.

Pap Smear
The Florida Department of Health in Calhoun County (DOH-Calhoun) offers pelvic exams to women as part of the clinic visit. If indicated, a pap smear is included in the clinic exam before birth control is issued.
 
Breast and Cervical Cancer
The Florida Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (FBCCP) is for women 50 years and older without Medicaid or insurance who live in Florida. This program provides a pap smear and mammogram to detect breast and cervical cancer before it becomes serious.

Breast Exams and Mammograms
Clients will receive a breast exam if they need birth control or pap smear. DOH-Calhoun does not provide mammograms. However, DOH-Calhoun will connect clients to programs which offer mammograms in the community.

•Women 40 years and older can receive mammogram services with the American Cancer Society.
•Women 50 years and older without insurance or Medicaid may qualify for the Florida Breast and Cervical Cancer Program.
